Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a form of alternative medicine and a key component of traditional Chinese medicine in which thin needles are inserted into the body.

About Acupuncture

Acupuncture therapy is a unique treatment where painless and extremely thin surgical needles are used to treat several health problems. Top rehab institutions all over the globe, such as the Mayo Clinic, have utilized the benefits of acupuncture for decades.

What does an Acupuncturist do?

One of the reasons is that although acupuncture works very well as a stand alone modality, it works extremely well in conjunction with other forms of treatment such as physiotherapy, osteopathy, chiropractic & massage therapy. Understanding how it works starts with the appreciation that our central nervous system uses bioelectricity via our nerves to quickly communicate vital information to all organs & parts of our body. In the case of injury or disease, this communication can be disrupted and become abnormal causing problems such as hypersensitivity, numbness, muscle spasm & weakness. The needles used in an acupuncture treatment allows the acupuncturist to modulate & regulate the neurological function within the problem area.

Benefits of Naturopathy

This natural method is very effective for different types of pain conditions, tight muscles, sore joints and can even help with breathing problems, digestion, anxiety & insomnia.

Doctor’s referral is not needed to see our Acupuncturist!

There has been an increase in acupuncture research particularly in the area of Pain Management and in the field of Oncology in the past twenty years. This trend is reflected in the number of acupuncture research articles published on PubMed . From 1987–2007, PubMed published 8,276 articles that were related to acupuncture.

Acupuncture is a safe alternative to empowering the body in re-setting itself back into wellness. It stimulates parts of the body to produce natural painkillers which reduce inflammation, improve digestive function and fight many serious illnesses.

If the needles are inserted correctly and in the right place, most people will feel a sense of heaviness or a dull ache and thus is interpreted as pain. As a practitioner, I will explain to my patients what to feel and therefore they know what to expect and the anxiety around potentially feeling pain is eased. Acupuncture is known to be very relaxing. The needles are very thin and should only sting slightly. If any discomfort is experienced in the beginning, it fades away quite quickly and leaves you feeling quite calm.
